As a live recording engineer, Masaki Araya freelanced twice for The PianoForte Salon Series at Columbia College Chicago on 98.7 WFMT broadcast live at Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, IL. Under WFMT engineer and Columbia College Chicago professor, Mary Mazurek, he assisted engineered the pianist, Maya Brodotskaya (February 6, 2009) and violin, cello, & piano trio, Trio Voce (February 27, 2009) performances. He also occasionally filled in for engineer, Joshua Sauvageau, current Operations Manager at WFMT, to record the International Chamber Artists’ performances at St. Gregory The Great church in 2011, 2013 & 2015.
As an audio documentation & producer, thanks to Jeremy Richards, his 5-minute audio documentary, “The Saddest Day” aired on KUOW Presents on 94.9 FM KUOW, an NPR affiliate, in Seattle, WA on January 18, 2011.
As a voice-over engineer, he recorded actor, rapper & model, Joshua Pertler (The Poker House) for the movie, Mouthpiece, in 2015, starring LaMonica Garrett (Designated Survivor, Transformers, Sons of Anarchy) & also stars Raney Branch (Being Mary Jane).
As a mixing engineer, he mixed the first gospel single by Elliott Bell, “Hallelujah”, that was released on April 21, 2015. He also provided additional recordings on a track, “Rain” & was the recording engineer for the track, “In About Water”, for the duo, The Fen. He also recorded overdubs & mixed the single, “Waves”, by Of Vasts Dimensions, released on March 24, 2017.
He second engineered, under Andrew Twiss (a former colleague & professor at Harold Washington College, whose works include as a recording and mixing engineer for the hit Fox series, Empire), on a recording of Angela Ingersoll as Judy Garland in “Judy Garland: Come Rain Or Come Shine”, slated to be aired on PBS in 2018. He also worked with Twiss for former Jersey Boys performer and founder of Under The Streetlamp, Christopher Kale Jones, as Bobby Darin in Darin: Live At The Mercury.
